5 cups peeled and sliced apples (Arkansas Black or Stayman Winesap) 1 tablespoon sugar ½ teaspoon cinnamon ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ¼ teaspoon cloves 1/3 cup apple cider (homemade) 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
Topping: 1/3 cup rolled oats 1/3 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 pound unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Toss the apples with the tablespoon of sugar, teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lemon juice, and cider.
Place in lightly buttered serving bowl.
Combine the dry ingredients for the topping, mix in butter gently, until it resembles coarse crumbs. Spread over apples.
